For years we have had requests for a training collar for toy and miniature dogs. Now there is one. The technical problems with producing such a training collar have been 4 fold. 1) The actual nylon collar needs to be adjustable to a very small neck size. To do so the antenna for the collar receiver needs to be in the receiver not in the collar. The SD-70 is such a collar, it will fit a dogs necks with a circumference as small as 3 inches. 2) The collar receiver needs to be light weight. The SD-70 features a collar receiver weighing only 1 ounce. In fact the entire weight of the collar receiver and the nylon collar and buckle is only 2.2 ounces. 3) The spacing of the probes needs to be small. This means that the distance between the two probes (which deliver the static correction) on the underside of the collar receiver needs to be small. Current receivers have a probe spacing of 1 3/8 inches. That means that the dogs neck needs to be wider than approximately 1 5/8 inches. The Probe spacing on the SD-70 is unique. The spacing can be adjusted to either 1 3/8, or just 5/8 of an inch. With a probe spacing of 5/8, your dog’s neck only needs to be 7/8 of an inch wide. 4) Lastly the lower correction level needs to be extremely mild. The SD-70 has 4 correction levels, of which the lower level is extremely mild. In addition there are tone buttons for rewarding good behavior and correcting bad behavior. Toy or Miniature Dog Application The neck size for toy, miniature, or small dog breeds can vary. It is important to adjust the collar receiver probe spacing to the size of your dogs neck. If your dogs neck is less than 1 5/8 inches wide, then use the micro off set probes. It will be necessary to use a wrench (not provided) to remove the current probes. Then place the miniature off set probes with the small off set bracket into the probe holes in the receiver. These will need to be tightened with a small flat head screw driver (not provided). When the miniature probes are in place, the collar can be fitted to the dog. Simply tighten the collar and then cut off the excess nylon solar and seal the nylon with the heat from a lighter or match. This fully waterproof miniature collar operates on 2 long lasting 3 Volt Lithium batteries, easily purchased at most drug or grocery stores. Small Dog Application If your dog has a neck with a diameter of greater than 1 5/8 inch, you do not need the micro off set probes. Simply put the SD-70 training collar on your dog, and adjust the collar strap. The excess strap can be cut off and the nylon sealed with the heat from a lighter or match. This fully waterproof miniature collar operates on 2 long lasting 3 Volt Lithium batteries, easily purchased at most drug or grocery stores. Transmitter The transmitter is simple to use. The transmitter features 4 separate correction levels, each selectable with a separate button, so there are no dials or levels to change. In addition there is a “Good Dog Tone”, and a “Bad Dog Tone”. These are optional and again each is associated with its own easily selectable button. The transmitter is only 3 1/2"L x 1 6/8"W x 5/8"H, so it is easily carried in a pocket. The transmitter operates on a 12V alkaline battery, easily purchased at most drug or grocery stores.
